The night so far had been far too — normal. There had been no catastrophic disasters, only a few minor scandals, and little to no drama. For Maya, at least. It almost stressed her out; She wasn’t sure what she was expecting, but this all seemed like a calm before a nonexistent storm. She was so used to complicated, that it was making her anxious when the night had gone well. So far, at least. With no idea where Cam had gone, and the desire get fresh air, Maya stepped outside of Degrassi, Running her hands through her hair, she sighed, taking a seat on the steps. There was nothing to worry about, but yet — She was still anxious. Maya hadn’t even noticed Arlene walking up until the other girl was speaking. Biting the inside of her cheek, Maya silently willed herself to stay calm. She hadn’t seem Arlene much since it was leaked that the younger girl had destroyed the garden, and frankly — Maya didn’t want to speak to her. Any sort of friendship they had was gone at this point. “No, he’s just — inside.” Her words sounded harsh, but she was too frustrated with the other girl to worry about hurting her feelings. “I was just getting some fresh air.” Maya continued, “Weren’t you like, banned for life or something from Degrassi?”
Arlene could feel the acidity in Maya’s tone the minute she began speaking, but it didn’t bother her. She let it roll off, having expected what she was gonna say. Maya’s anger on her sister’s behalf was justified; if Arlene was in her position, she probably would have been just as hostile. Arlene looked down instead, chuckling and shaking her head lightly. “Unfortunately not. Simpson was definitely tempted, but he settled for sticking me on suspicion from school and placing me in the Rubber Room. And he banned me from attending the dance. But that’s it.” Arlene looked up at the older girl, who still wore a hard expression. Her actions were in no way forgivable, but Arlene was hoping to get Maya hear her out. She had a feeling she’d have better luck with Maya than she would with Katie, anyway. “Sorry again – ya know, about the garden. I really messed up.”
