Maya wanted to get up and leave — Make another snarky remark and leave it at that, but with each word, she became more and more concerned. While Arlene had wrecked the garden, the other girl had still been her friend, and Maya cared about her. While she put up a tough front — or well, tried to put up a tough front — Maya wanted to hear Arlene out, to find what was going on. Maya watched closely as Arlene spoke, her frustration with the girl beginning to subside. “You might have a… problem?” She asked, furrowing her brow at the other girl, wanting to know more.

“The therapist told my mom that she thinks I might have something called Conduct Disorder.” Arlene said, bluntly. “I didn’t know what it was, but I looked it up online. To put it shortly, it’s kind of like a kid who acts out in school but grows out of it. Except, I haven’t grown out of it and I managed to take it to the next level.” Arlene took a deep breath and glanced at her friend. “When I trashed your sister’s garden, I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. I’m still not.” Arlene took a deep breath, glancing over at the other girl again. “Do you, uh – do you have any questions?”
